What We Believe: Nuggets of our Faith
We believe that the Bible (Old and New Testament), is the divinely inspired and authoritative word of God by which we ascribe to live as disciples of Jesus Christ. (Psalm 12:6; Proverbs 30:5-6; John 17:17; 2 Timothy 3:15-17; Hebrews 4:12)
We believe that there is only one true living God, who is triune in His being: God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. The doctrine of the Trinity is complex and cannot be fully understood. We believe that the same God is Creator, Ruler, Sustainer who is fully sovereign and eternally existent. (Genesis 1; John 10:30; Psalm 147:5; Romans 1:20; 2 Corinthians 13:14)
We believe that Jesus Christ being fully God and the Son of God, was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary and did live a sinless life, offering himself as the perfect sacrifice for all the sins of humanity. We believe that Christ arose from the dead and ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of the God (Matthew 1:18-23; John 1:1; Acts1:1-9; 2:29-33; 1 Corinthians 15:3,4; Hebrews 4:15; 10:5-10).
We believe that the Holy Spirit is released to every believer at the moment of salvation simultaneously as regeneration (rebirth) happens. It is our understanding that the indwelling, sealing, infilling and the giving of spiritual gifts are also imparted at that time by the Holy Spirit but there may be other times of powerful demonstration and filling in the lives of believers (John 3:1-8; 14:15-18, 25-27; 16:5-16; Acts 1:5, 8: Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 6:19; Titus 3:5).
We believe that humanity was created in the image of God to be like Him in character but failed in Adam and Eve’s choosing to sin against Him in the Garden of Eden thus causing the substitutionary death and resurrection of Jesus Christ to be absolutely necessary to reconcile humanity to God. (Genesis 1:26-28; 2:16 –3:24; Matthew 22:37-39; 28:19; John 3:16; 15:8).
We believe that salvation is the free gift of grace made available to all of humanity but must be accepted by faith. We contend that it is by faith alone that we are saved and not works. We work because we have salvation and not to earn it. We are to share this glorious truth of God’s amazing grace with others (John 3:16, Acts 2:21; Romans 3:23,24; 6:23; 10:3-11; Ephesians 2:8-9; Revelation 3:20).
We believe that God is love and as the people of God we are accountable to God and to one another to love each other, pray and care for each other through admonishing, exhorting and encouraging one another. Believers, also known as the Body of Christ, are to share of our resources in times of need and hardship while cultivating and promoting harmony and monitoring our lives individually according to the word of God and conviction of the Holy Spirit ( Matthew 18:15-17; John 13:34-35; Acts 2:42-47; 4:32-35; Galatians 6:1-2; Ephesians 4:2-3, 29, 31-32; 5:8-21; 1 Thessalonians 5:14-15; 1 Timothy 4:16; James 2:14-18; 5:16; 1 Peter 1:22; 3:8; 1 John 3:17-18; 4:7-20).
